Charlie Stross has been selling fiction since 1998, including fourteen novels so far, and in addition to his short fiction, is known in the UK for novels such as Iron Sunrise, Singularity Sky and Accelerando, which was released as an e-book under a Creative Commons licence. This demonstrates his geek credentials, although writing a Linux column for Computer Shopper and tech sector jobs dealing with UNIX, web, and miscellaneous "dot com stuff" couldn't have hurt. He's also an ex-pharmacist, but implies that writing novels is less stressful (where stress is measured by likely proximity to Armed Reponse units).
