Guests of Honour

China Miéville

China Miéville's novels have a tendency to be nominated for awards, such as Hugos, Nebulas and World Fantasy awards. Both Perdido Street Station and Iron Council won the Arthur C. Clarke awards for their respective years.

His Wikipedia entry notes that he lived and taught English in Egypt when he was eighteen. He is known for his outspoken political views, and stood (unsuccessfully) for Parliament as a candidate for the Socialist Alliance in 2001.
